HOLY 60 YEARS OF BATMAN, BATMAN!
60 years ago today, January 12th 1966, William Dozier brought onto this great land one of the most influential and iconic television shows ever created. Batman took to the airwaves and left a mark that few other show have since. Starring Adam West and Burt Ward the show would dominate not only the airwaves, but Pop Culture itself for quite sometime. The dou’s portrayal set the bar for all future Batman and Robin actors to come.
In addition to heroes the show also boasted a murder’s row of guest stars bring to life the colorful villains ripped from the comics of the time. Ceasar Romero, Frank Gorshin, Burgess Merideth, and Julie Newmar formed the quartet of baddies (Joker, Riddler, Penguin, and Catwoman respectively) that appeared most often during the 3 season run. The show also created several villains King Tut (Victor Buono), Egghead (Vincent Price), Shame, (Cliff Robertson), Chandell (Liberace), and False Face (Malichi Throne) to name a few. While some, like Catwoman and Mr. Freeze, were adapted from comics, these original creations defined the show's colorful tone.
