"THE JOKER" PREMIRES IN 2 DAYS

Retro Cool Nerd is very excited about the upcoming Warner Brothers Theatrical release, The Joker. Having been fortunate enough to avoid any spoilers online, I have upgraded from “Cautiously optimistic, to “I can’t wait!” over the past few days, mostly inspired by the finale trailer. Early reviews from Rotten Tomatoes are all over the place. From “Chilling Masterpiece” to “ I’m never thinking of this movie again.” but that doesn’t deter me. As of this writing The Joker sports a 77% rating, but I stand un-wavered. CNN reports “a potential violent threat discovered in discussion on the dark web about the possible targeting of a theater during the movie's release.” has spurred reports of extra security, theaters banning single moviegoers and costumed viewers. This too, will not stop me from seeing this movie. I simply must know, first hand, if Joaquin Phoenix (Gladiator, Walk the Line) and director Todd Phillips (Road Trip, The Hangover) can deliver. "Joker" centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips' exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham's fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night...but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.
